the hump

Whew…it’s been a busy week! Taking 2 days off work last week, left me being a busy girl this week! It always happens the same way, last week was a pretty slow week work load wise, and the days I was gone so much stuff came in and new projects to do. I work for a relatively young company and am single handedly the graphic designer, marketing guru, and sales support departments. Great experience and resume additions, but it’s always go-go-go and everybody wants everything done ASAP! Keeps me on my toes and helps “quittin’ time” get here faster! Today has just been one of those days though, that I feel like a zombie and need sleep! Plus, with the June Gloom going strong in San Diego, it makes for the perfect days to be all snuggly on the couch with a book and movie….siiiiigh!

So, as I take a little break from work, i did a little internet window shopping and I want, I want, I want

Anyone who knows me, knows I have an adoration slight obsession with j. crew (and anthro). I squeal a little when I get the catalog in the mail and probably look thru it about 1000 times before I finally part ways with it. I just love the classic style and the Jackie cardigans are great as well. Its the old soul in me.

Anyone taking part in the push-up, sit-up, and squat challenge with N Her Shoes? I did the initial test Monday night and the results:

Push-ups: 15

Sit-ups: 75

Squats: 85

I take a bootcamp class 3-4 days a week that is all about push-ups, lunges, squats, etc so I know that definitely helped with the sit-ups and squats, but seriously, push-ups (“man” style) are so hard! I dread them, but I am excited for the challenge. I would love a little defining line in my upper arm!

Back to work I go…I leave you with this heart breaker and his birthday picture to me:

Iron Girl

To end the birthday activities, LeeAnn and I ran the Aflac Iron Girl 5k/10k. LeeAnn just started running again, so she opted for the 5k while I did the 10k. It was a good run, the weather was overcast and cool most of the run, but the sun started peaking out towards the end and it got warmer. I know some people get energized by the sun, but it totally takes everything out of me! The makes me lethargic, so while most people get excited for summer, I kind of dread it b/c I feel like I’m tired all the time. Oh, well, back to the run. It started at the Del Mar Horse Track and the 10k runners basically did a 5k loop twice and ended by running on the actual horse track, which is kind of neat.

There were a couple decent hills with a moderate incline, but nothing too drastic. The only bummer about the race, I would say, is that since the 10k runners started first, but the time we started our second loop the 5k runners were out there but there were a LOT of walkers and they wouldn’t move! I felt like there should have been someone out there directing walkers to the left, runners to the right or vice versa, so that was a lot of congestion. I ended the race in a time of 54:58, equaling a pace of 8:51, which I’m very happy with.

I will say, that Aflac knows how to put on the race, check out the swag! Besides what’s in the pic below, they gave out a re-usable tote, breakfast after the race (banana, juice, muffins, and yogurt. I ate the banana), mini-luna bars (which I may have taken more that my fair share, but you should have seen the girl in front of me – I thought she was just going to take the box), plus a lot more other little things.

I would definitely recommend this race; they have them at various locations around the country. And it’s women only, so if you’re female and want to try out a race, I think its a little less intimidating. And let’s not forget, the Iron Girl Pups!

Birthday Girl

So, yesterday was my birthday. I still can’t get over how much fun it was. I’m generally not a big “party girl” for my birthday, but I love doing something different and unique from a regular day as well as seeing friends and family. I slept in until 5:45ish (which is sleeping in for me as I’m generally up by 4:45/5) and got in a short 2.5 mile run with Carley. The activity for the day said you’d need your full energy for it and to not do a strenuous workout that day, but since I’m running a 10k on Sunday and I got to a bootcamp class on Fridays, I wanted to get some running in.

Excuse the gapping hole in the couch. That was courtesy of Kenzie when we first got her and haven’t had the chance ($$$) to replace it yet. After the run, i got cleaned up and ran some errands and then went on to the main event…trapeze flying! I’ve never ever done this, but I always think its so amazing at shows to see people flying around and doing tricks and I happened to google it and found a place near San Diego that gives lessons and their beginners classes are on Thursday, so perfecto.

I was so pumped up and excited to do this but I tell you, as soon as I got there and saw everything, I started wondering what I got myself in to, but was just going to go with the flow. I was actually a couple minutes late (Josh can never be on time, drives me nuts!) so only got the tail in of the basic instructions and seriously, it was time to climb the ladder. And somehow, even though I was late to arrive, I got pushed up the ladder first. I’m not really scared of heights, but holy bananas, it was scary up there!

The bar you hold onto is a lot heavier than it looks. They give you commands of “Ready” and you basically lean out with your hips and chest with someone holding a rope that’s attached to the waist belt and then you life the bar over your head and wait for the command “Hemp” to jump and go. Well, at Ready they kept telling me to life the bar, and I was like, “I am!” Then the guy at the top (who was 19 and been doing this since he was 4!) yells “Hemp” and I don’t move! Haha…he literally had to push me off! But, once you go its SO fun and exhilarating! After doing just a basic swing a few times, they teach you how to bring your legs up and over the bar so you’ll be hanging from your knees. Oh my goodness, it was such a mental thing, but I couldn’t do it! But, I did manage to learn to do a backflip off the bar to land in the net.

I have to say, as scared and overwhelmed that I felt at times, it was totally worth it. I thought going in that the first jump would be challenging to get thru and after that I’d calm down and be fine, but every time I climbed to the top, I got so nervous! But, I would definitely recommend this and want to try it again!

After flying, we were meeting my dad for dinner. My dad and I have the same birthday, so when we are together on b’days (he splits his time between San Diego and Atlanta for work) we always have dinner together, and last night we chose Cheesecake Factory! Yum! My dad loves this place, and I enjoy it to, but the menu is insane! So many pages of choices. I decided on the Grill Eggplant sandwich since I had eaten an apple on the way back from trapeze (I was starved!) and I knew we were going to have dessert! The sandwich was very tasty, but kind of hard to eat as a sandwich…everything kept sliding out. And I totally had some fries on the side. For dessert, Josh got some cheesecake and I got mud pie that came with ice cream (I love me some ice cream), but when it got to the table, it could feed a village of 5,000, so we brought the cheesecake home, along with most of the mud pie!

Afterwards, Josh and I thought we’d hit up a late night movie, but we were both pretty beat and decided for a netflix movie at home, Bride Wars. And I tried to get a belly rub out of Kenzie and Carley, but had none of that and insisted I give them one instead. Spoiled rotten, those two!

26 and joining the circus

Today I turned 26 and entered the descent into the late 20s. Woah!! But, it was such a fun day and have to say one of the top birthdays I’ve had. I’m off to a movie to finish of the night, but I leave you with this before the recap tomorrow.

Hail? In San Diego?

There was hail today in San Diego. It’s June and while overcast and cloudy (June Gloom) the temp is probably in the 70s. In 4 years of living in San Diego, I’ve barely seen rain, let alone hail. And there were some big chunks coming down. Global warming anyone?

Good thing I cracked my car windows when I got to work this morning…that’s gonna make for a soggy ride home. meh.

But in some fun news, tomorrow’s my birthday!! Woot woot!! I’m never really get freaked out by getting older (even though I’m only a twenty-something right now), I just feel like the past few years have especially have flown by and that I can’t really be turning ___ tomorrow. But I’m totally pumped about the birthday activity I’m partaking in tomorrow!

Assuming the hail doesn’t bum it out.
